Course Overview:
Objectives:
There is a severe shortage of pediatric behavioral health providers in New Mexico and around the country. As primary care providers, we are called to bridge the gap between the patient and a behavioral health specialist.
The Presbyterian Medical Group Primary Care Pediatric Behavioral Health Summit will educate primary care physicians on efficient ways of evaluating, diagnosing, and treating common pediatric behavioral health conditions such as depression, anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, and drug/alcohol abuse based on DSM-V diagnostic criteria. This activity is designed to increase the learner's competence and confidence in managing such conditions within the scope of the primary care setting, in collaboration with an integrated behavioral health provider.
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
- Identify common behavioral health conditions in pediatrics such as depression, anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, and drug/alcohol abuse based on DSM-V diagnostic criteria.
- Apply first-line, efficient management strategies that can be implemented at the level of primary care.
- Effectively collaborate with an integrated behavioral health provider at the level of the patient's medical home.
