A Substance Use Disorder Initiative & Continuing Medical Education Program
This course is approved as meeting the New Mexico Medical Board's Pain Management Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirement as set forth in 16.10.14 NMAC

Course Overview
 

Prescribers will gain practical knowledge and skills relevant for the treatment and care of patients presenting with acute and/or chronic substance use disorders, including opioid use disorder, and/or withdrawal. Qualified providers who complete the training will be eligible to apply for the Data 2000 Waiver, allowing them to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder and opioid withdrawal.
 
Please Note: Participants who register for the Data 2000 Waiver Course must take 4 hours of post-course work online and APCs must complete an additional 16 hours of post-course work online. 

Course Objectives
 

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
 
  • Utilize standardized methods to identify diagnostic criteria of opioid use disorders.
  • Apply federal regulations pertaining to opioid replacement therapy to treatment protocols. 
  • Recognize current standards of care for agonist treatment of opioid withdrawal and opioid use disorder.
  • Develop strategies to effectively manage buprenorphine induction(s).

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 4.0 MOC points (and patient safety MOC credit) in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.   Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity.  It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
